3rd Verstärker Art Film Festival: call for entries

In May 2021, the GEH8 Kunstraum will host the 3rd Verstärker Art Film Festival and present the Verstärker Award as part of it.

The festival is aimed at students from the new federal states. A maximum of 8 students per university will be presented with their contributions. The films may not exceed a length of 8 minutes and must have been made in 2020 or 2021. There are no requirements regarding content.

More about Verstärker

Under the title “Verstärker”, GEH8 presents projects and exhibitions by students of the
HfBK Dresden and other art colleges in the new federal states. In addition to its own
exhibitions and projects, the GEH8 repeatedly opens its space to young artists, thereby
artists and thus provides better artistic production and presentation conditions in Dresden.
Dresden. With “Verstärker”, a format of its own has now been created for the first time that supports and rewards up-and-coming artistic positions.

Jury

Jana Endruschat studied Media & Communication Science and has always been connected to the Saxon film scene. She produced image and industrial films for more than 10 years and worked in the production department for national and international feature film productions for at least as long. As a trainee in the funding area, she got to know the mechanisms of the Central German Media Funding & was able to expand her moving image spectrum at the Werkleitzgesellschaft e.V. in the Centre for Media Art. 2013-2018 she was responsible for communication & network at the Filmverband Sachsen. In January 2019, she took over the management.

Alexandra Meißner was born in Hoyerswerda in 1983 and studied sociology and communication science in Dresden. From 2008 she worked for the International Filmfest Dresden and was a member of the festival management for seven years. She is active as a freelance programme designer and lecturer and advises film and cultural projects in the areas of production, development and mediation. Since 2019, she has been a programme support and communication officer at the Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen (Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony), where she coordinates, among other things, the international residency programmes and the small project fund for rural areas.

Michael Merkel, born in 1987 in Dresden, studied German language and literature, cultural studies and art history in Dresden and Wroclaw after training as a wood sculptor. He also studied fine arts at the Academy in Wroclaw and at the Bauhaus University in Weimar. In addition to the implementation of curatorial projects, he has exhibited several times in Germany and abroad. He has been awarded various grants as well as project funding for his artistic work and has been working as coordinator program planning and public relations at GEH8 Kunstraum Dresden since 2018. He initiated the Verstärker Art Film Festival in 2019, which he has also coordinated since then.
