Matthias Bausch’s figurative paintings refer in a symbolic way to the fragility of man-made systems and structures of order. The threatening atmosphere of barren, unreal-looking landscapes in which an event takes place visualizes the uncertainty that accompanies current social upheavals.
Matthias Bausch’s geometric, abstract paintings create a spatial complexity. In the field of tension between dialog and demarcation, color gradients and linearity contrast with each other,
flatness and spatial suggestions. The result is labyrinthine moments that invite the viewer to linger.
